This meeting continues the dialogues held within the framework of the Regional Preparatory Meeting for Latin America and the Caribbean which took place on April 25, 2023, looking at the regional priorities and good practices to transform the region's food systems. The meeting is organized by the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub and in collaboration with the United Nations Interagency Food Systems Task Force for Latin America and the Caribbean, in direct coordination with the Regional Offices of agencies composing the Task Force and Latin America and the Caribbean Economic Commission, and other bodies of the United Nations and regional organizations.

The Regional Meeting will take place one day during the LAC Sustainable Development Forum 2024. The event seeks to foster a collaborative and participatory space where country representatives review and analyze the current status of the implementation of national pathways for the transformation of food systems. In addition, it seeks to identify and understand common challenges related to key aspects of the implementation of national pathways. With the exchange of good practices and the identification of effective strategies, the aim is to promote the development of capacities necessary to support the transformation processes of food systems at the national and subregional levels. The objectives of the meeting are:

  • Review overall progress in the implementation of national pathways for food systems transformation since the UNFSS+2.
  • Identify common challenges in the implementation of pathways in food systems in terms of governance and political interest, financing, participation of other groups (private sector and civil society), capacity building and human resources, data and information, and monitoring and follow-up.
  • Identification of strategies for the implementation of national pathways through the exchange of good practices.
  • Peer learning to support the transformation processes of national food systems

 

Participants And Registration

The regional meeting will bring together National Convenors from LAC countries, practitioners, and civil society members involved in the food systems transformation and climate action, as well as concerned regional and international organizations and academia. Participation in this event is limited to individuals who have received formal invitations.

 

This event is part of a series of  Regional Meetings organized by the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub as a follow-up to the United Nations Food Systems (UNFSS+2) Stocktaking Moment which took place in Rome in July 20232 . These meetings are being conducted in collaboration with the UN Regional Commissions, the Regional Offices of the UN Agencies supporting the Hub, and other relevant UN and regional bodies.
