Tuesday, 29 July 2025 | 11:00 - 12:50
Lead: Italy and Ethiopia
Room CR1
Session Overview
Food sovereignty is more than food security—it’s about the right of communities to shape their own food systems. This roundtable brings ministers and stakeholders together to explore how national strategies grounded in local knowledge, cultural values, and traditional practices are advancing sustainable and equitable food systems. The session will highlight how countries are scaling up local solutions, strengthening small and medium-scale producers, and protecting traditional food systems through supportive public policies and financing tools like certification schemes and geographical indications. It will also explore how food sovereignty principles can be integrated into national planning and investment frameworks to increase resilience and reduce import dependency. Participants will discuss shared priorities, best practices, and opportunities to foster food systems that are community-driven, climate-resilient, and economically inclusive. Together, they’ll consider how food sovereignty can serve as a powerful lever for long-term transformation that leaves no one behind.
