Overview

The UN Food Systems Coordination Hub will convene participants of the Youth Leadership Programme (YLP), supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, together with selected partners, for a four-day gathering in Rome.

The convening will bring together emerging food systems leaders from across regions to reflect on progress achieved so far, share experiences, and explore how to advance the next phase of the initiative.

About the YLP

The Youth Leadership Programme supports early-career professionals from developing countries to strengthen leadership skills, systems thinking and practical engagement in food systems processes.

Since its launch in 2024, the programme has brought together nearly 80 young professionals from close to 60 countries through regional leadership trainings across Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and Latin America and the Caribbean. This convening builds on that foundation, offering a moment to reflect on the programme’s journey so far, share experiences, and explore how to carry this momentum forward.

 

What the convening will focus on

• Taking stock of the Youth Leadership Programme’s outcomes, including leadership development, peer learning and engagement in food systems processes;
• Sharing concrete experiences from participants’ work at national and regional levels;
• Identifying opportunities to strengthen and sustain the YLP network beyond the current phase;
• Exploring how youth leaders can continue to engage in and contribute to ongoing food systems processes and initiatives.

Participation

This is primarily an invitation-based convening bringing together YLP participants and selected partners.

Will any part of the event be open to a wider audience?
Yes. A session on 15 May 2026 will be open for virtual participation. Registration details will be shared soon.

Can I attend in person?
A limited number of in-person places will be available for the 15 May session. Interested participants will be able to apply through a short form, with participants selected based on availability.
