Coherent CAADP-Kampala-based food systems policies: Country and regional experiences and lessons

African countries are advancing implementation of the CAADP Kampala Declaration under Agenda 2063 while also working across national development priorities and commitments on the Sustainable Development Goals, climate, biodiversity, nutrition, trade and resilience.

At the 4th Africa Food Systems Transformation Meeting in Accra in May 2026, National Food Systems Convenors highlighted policy coherence and institutional alignment as important conditions for effective food systems transformation. Fragmented policies, overlapping mandates and institutional silos can make coordinated implementation and investment more difficult.

This side event at the Africa Food Systems Forum 2026 will bring together country and regional perspectives on how stronger alignment across policies, legislation, institutional mandates and governance arrangements can support the food systems goals set out in the CAADP Kampala Declaration.

Discussions will consider links between National Development Plans, sector strategies, Agenda 2063, the CAADP Kampala Declaration, the SDGs and climate commitments under the UNFCCC. Participants will also examine how policy coherence can help countries develop credible, investment-ready food systems initiatives and mobilize public and private financing.
