Partnerships among Amazon countries: Food systems transformation and climate action
25/05/2026 - 28/05/2026
Date: 25–28 May 2026
Location: Brasília, Brazil
Participation: Invitation only
Overview
The UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, the WFP Centre of Excellence Against Hunger in Brazil, and the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO), will convene a four-day training and exchange for representatives from Amazon countries.
The event will bring together diplomats and public officials working on food systems and climate-related processes to strengthen capacities, share experiences, and explore opportunities for regional cooperation. Participation is by invitation only and includes nominated representatives from the eight Amazon countries.
The convening builds on the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub’s Convergence Initiative, which supports countries in aligning food systems transformation with climate action, as well as on regional momentum generated by recent political commitments among Amazon countries.
About the initiative
The Amazon is a strategic biome for advancing food security while generating co-benefits for climate action and biodiversity conservation. Across the region, food systems are closely linked to forest and river ecosystems, which provide essential resources for livelihoods, nutrition, and resilience.
At the same time, many communities in the Amazon continue to face food insecurity and limited access to services, particularly in remote areas. Addressing these challenges requires integrated approaches that connect food security, climate resilience, sustainable land use, and regional cooperation.
Through the Convergence Initiative, the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub supports countries in identifying opportunities to align food systems transformation with climate action. Building on Brazil’s experience and recent regional commitments among ACTO member states, this convening will provide a space for exchange and learning among Amazon countries facing similar challenges.
