ALIGNING FOOD SYSTEMS AND CLIMATE ACTION
The Convergence Initiative
Launched by the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General at COP28, the Convergence Initiative supports countries in strengthening coherence between food systems transformation and climate action.
Operating across 22 countries and three subregions, the initiative supports cross-ministerial coordination and the development of Convergence Action Blueprints, identifying synergies between national food systems pathways, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and other relevant policy frameworks.
Supporting the COP UNFCCC Presidency, the Initiative is listed under the NAZCA Cooperative Climate Initiative and contributes to PAS COACT and the Axis 3 working group.
As a Convergence Initiative country, Türkiye has worked closely with the Hub to develop its Convergence Action Blueprint (CAB). The Hub continues to engage as a partner to Türkiye in its capacity as COP31 Presidency, supporting efforts to advance the COP31 Action Agenda, including through the Regional Convergence Workshop, Towards COP31: Operationalizing the Water–Food–Climate Nexus. These efforts have also helped inform and shape the Turquoise Nexus Initiative (TNI).
STRENGTHENING PARTNERSHIPS FOR CLIMATE ACTION
The Ecosystem of Support
The Hub works with a wider ecosystem of coalitions, initiatives and partners to support countries in advancing food systems transformation and related climate, biodiversity and land objectives.
At COP31, partners across this ecosystem will contribute expertise and country experiences on issues including soil health, agroecology, sustainable agriculture and climate-resilient food systems.
Explore the work and engagement of the Food Systems Coalitions of Action across global climate and environmental processes, including the Coalition of Action for Soil Health and the Agroecology Coalition.
ROME-BASED AGENCIES AT COP31
FAO, IFAD and WFP Engagement
